Sylvie Vartan seems absolutely excited about that. She loves to exploer her country France travelling far and wide.
In fact, she used to go on long, long nationwide and worldwide concert tours after Live in Paris from her debut in the 1960s through to the mid-1980s. In the 1970s, she often did that for one month in Japant - throughout the whole land -, too. Sylvie Vartan, an explorer, an adventurous all-time star.

Somehow I feel so much for Sylvie Vartan's late mother, Ilona Vartan (1914-2007, born in Hungary and lived in Bulgaria, France, USA), who was and is role model to Sylvie as well as what kept the Vartan's spirits up. I read a Japanese article of early 1970s on Sylvie in Japan, which said something like this : Sylvie cares about her mother, she never forgets about her and chose a scarf for her, too when shopping. (Sylvie came to Japan almost every year in 1970s for 2 to 4 week-concert tour and followed an amazingly tight schedule.)
Around 1986 in Tokyo, I had a chance to see graceful Ilona Vartan behind Sylvie when I approched Sylvie to give a bouquet of flowers, which I chose hurriedly at a nearby flower shop so as not to miss an occasion . Sylvie handed the bouquet to her mother, who had a gentle smile on her face and held it gently as if it were a baby. That was such an impressive moment that it's vivid in my memory.
Sylvie Vartan said on France TV F2 it's the life of an exceptional woman who came through all moments of a century, the turbulent 20th century besides love for her mother that dictated and had control over its direction to write this book.

Sylvie Vartan was invited to many French radio and TV programs since the publication of this book. When asked about her heroines on a TV program "Entree Libre" of 11/05/2016, Sylvie Vartan, who is at the same time calm and passionate, spoke of George Sand, Mother Teresa, among others by category, besides her mother Ilona Vartan.

シルヴィ・ヴァルタンと言えば、その美しい容姿からヘルシーながらミステリアスな印象がある。その一方で、息の長い多忙なスターでありながら、充実した家庭生活といつも家族思いであることでも知られている。大きな家族の中で育ち、親類を含む周りから大変に愛されて育ったという幼少の頃の思い出がベースにあるようだ。。 私がシルヴィ・ヴァルタン・ファンであり、彼女の公私の生き方に深く感動するもう一つの理由がここにある。
2007年の夏、シルヴィは彼女のお手本で心の糧で全てであったお母さんを見送っている。その前後、特に2006年から2008年のTVヴィデオに映るシルヴィは、かつてない悲しみや落込みで空虚な表情が顕著だった。2008年パリ公演（パレ・デ・コングレ）は私には奇跡的な開催と思えた。続く日本公演のシルヴィは、躍動する動きや一際豊かな歌声とは裏腹に、初めて見る悲し気に光る目が印象的だった。1972年オリジナル曲 "MON PERE"（"モン・ペール" - 私の父）のそのシンプルな歌に寂寥感や何かがあり、シルヴィの内面を見る思い。
そして、2009年パリ・オランピア劇場公演 "SYLVIE LIVE" でクラシック・シャソン "MON ENFANCE" （私の幼い頃/バルバラのカバー）を初披露している。本作の一部にシルヴィ自らの子供時代と特に亡き母親への思いが重なるオリジナル曲のような歌。約一世紀を生きたお母さんの回想は、何年か前から書いてきたようだ。

シルヴィ・ヴァルタンは公私ともに中途半端に過ごすことはなかった。引退をほのめかしたこともなければ休業もなかった上に、いつも家庭があった。現在も同様。シルヴィの家族や往年の友人が話すシルヴィの日常は、スター・アーティストの生活とは無関係で家庭を愛する普通の一人の女性であり、母親、妻、嫁、祖母であるとのこと。
2005年来日公演の際、クロワッサン誌のインタヴューで、2004年フランス刊行のベストセラー自叙伝 (両親と兄に捧げた回想録) "ENTRE L'OMBRE ET LA LUMIERE" （陰と光の間）について、シルヴィはこんな風に話している：
「歌は、一瞬の輝きで、はかないからこそ美しい。けれど、私はこの自伝を書いたことにより、初めて自分の足跡を残せたような気持ちになれたのです」
私は幸運にも1986年頃にシルヴィのお母さんを東京で一度見たことがある。一寸ながら、その優しい物腰や表情に深く感動したことが忘れられない。また、90年代にフランスのTV番組でインタヴューに答える場面も同様。その暖かいまなざしや気品ある様子や一言一言ゆっくり話す低音の声やその言葉に感銘を受けた。甘えっ子のシルヴィ、シルヴィ・ヴァルタンが敬愛する人なのだと思った。
因みに、シルヴィのお母さんは一人娘の芸能界入りに猛反対だった為、彼女のオランピア劇場初出演に涙したとのこと。大事な娘が大衆の前にさらされて歌う、そのような光景に耐えられなかったと言う。シルヴィは2012年刊行の辞書形式の自叙伝 "MOT A MOT" （一語一語）に 「母が亡くなるまで彼女の子供のままでいた」 「母は陽気で感動的だった、ハンガリー・バイオリンの旋律のように」 と書いている。バイオリンはお母さんの祖国ハンガリーと結びつくそうで、バイオリンの音を耳にすると涙が出るとのこと。
約一世紀を生きた女性、イロ―ナ・ヴァルタンはハンガリーに生まれ、著名な建築家の父親の仕事の関係で家族で子供の頃にブルガリア（ソフィア）に移住、芸術家でもあったジョルジュ・ヴァルタンと結婚し30代でソフィアからパリに（ビザ発給を受けて）亡命。彼女の夫（シルヴィのお父さん）は1970年に50代で夭折。お母さんは、ほとんどいつもシルヴィと一緒に暮らし最終的にアメリカ（ロサンゼルス）に住み、複数の外国語を話し、生涯を閉じた。
私はこの本ををなぜかシルヴィの「自叙伝」以上に心待ちにしていたので、昨年は数ヶ月前に予約。本書は暗記するほど何度も何度も読み返したい。フランス語の上達にも役立つ。

On the cover of your book "Maman..." (published the previous day, 21/04/2016), a photo of two of you, your mother and you. That word, "Maman," the most beautiful word in the world for many. I'm talking about declaration of love. Do I exaggerate it?
Sylvie Vartan responded that her book was certainly dictated by love for her mother, which had control over its direction. Still, it's on the exceptional life of a woman (Ilona Vartan born in Hungary, 1914-2007) who came through all moments of a century (the turbulent 20th century).

シルヴィ・ヴァルタン - 本番組の録画3日前に4ケ月間の演劇主演を終えたばかり - が久しぶりに TARATATA に出演（2016年1月29日（金）深夜放送）。TARATATAは100%生演奏の質の高い音楽番組として定評のある長寿番組。国内外の新進人気アーティストも出演し特に若者層に支持されている。スタジオに観客を招いた中での白熱のライヴは特に聴きもの。TVではあまりライヴで歌わないシルヴィなだけに音楽ファンには待望のイヴェント。
2015年11月末に発売された再録アルバム "UNE VIE EN MUSIQUE" (直訳： 音楽の生涯） からクラシック・シャンソン 「私の幼い頃」（"Mon Enfance"） のカバー含む3曲、そしてもう一つの目玉は、エルヴィス・プレスリー(Elvis Presley) の "Suspicious Minds"。 ベルギー出身の アクセル・レッド (Axelle Red) とデュエットした。 レッドは1998年シルヴィ・ヴァルタンの特別番組で "Son of a Preacher Man" を一緒に歌い好評だった。
シルヴィは幼少から俳優志望だったが、ジャズトランぺッターで音楽家の兄エディ・ヴァルタン (Eddie Vartan) がRCAの音楽ディレクターだった時に彼のレコーディングに巻き込まれてレコード・デビュー。彼の影響で、十代は特に JAZZ そして Rhythm and Blues で育ち、リセ時代はプレスリーなどの ROCK が台頭した時期でもあり、デビュー時はアメリカ音楽を数多くカヴァーした。

LATEST ALBUM - "UNE VIE EN MUSIQUE"

シルヴィ・ヴァルタン2015年11月発売の新作はオリジナル（レパートリー）曲の新録音。音楽で生涯を綴るアルバム。
シルヴィのルーツであり人生である三都市 - ソフィア、パリ、ロサンゼルス - から想を得た自伝的要素のある作品を、それぞれ現地で録音。 未発表作品2曲、クラシック・シャンソンの 「私の幼い頃」（バルバラ）と 「仔馬」 （ジョルジュ・ブラッサンス）を含む全16曲収録。
因みに、本作の選曲が発表されるやいなやフランス公式サイトは不満の声が渦巻いた。我々ファンの満足のためシルヴィはもう半世紀は活動し続けなければ。
実際に手にして、まず外観の美しさに感嘆。お馴染みのオリジナル曲だが、最初の2曲に思わず胸を打たれた。"NICOLAS"(1979) はいつ聴いても感動する歌。 シルヴィのよりシンプルで瑞々しい歌にソフィアにいる感動を感じる。「ソフィア録音」は2011年シルヴィ・ヴァルタンのステージ・キャリア50周年記念特別公演（会場： パリ・サル・プレイエル Salle Pleyel）で演奏したソフィア・フィルハーモニー管弦楽団（Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra directed by Deyan Pavlov) が一緒だが、全て静謐。特に音が繊細で詩的なところがある。シルヴィの安定したスローな歌声は清らかで、まるで教会の静寂の中で歌ったかのよう。感慨深いソフィア録音。一方、パリとロサンゼルス録音は一気にバラ色でリズミカル。
1994年の再録 「セッション・アコースティック」 は、シルヴィの強い動機があった上に往年のブレーンのミュージシャン達と一気に仕上げた作品だけに、瑞々しく、幸福感漂う香り高い傑作。今回の再録 「音楽の生涯」 はアコースティックのようにシンプルながら少々複雑。幕開けは、飾り気がない風で素直なシルヴィの歌とその意表を突く静寂が際立つソフィア録音。続いて軽快なパリ、そして30年来カリフォルニアに住むシルヴィのパンチの効いた流れるような英語の歌で幕を閉じる。その英語の歌 "I CAN'T MAKE HIM LOOK AT ME" は1964年11月アメリカ録音第2作 「Gift wrapped from Paris」（1965年発売）収録曲。 1995年発売の全集（RCA時代1961-1986）から聴いてみると、20歳のシルヴィ・ヴァルタン特有の粗削りながらセンス一杯の自由奔放でフレッシュな歌声に思わず笑顔。 そして、半世紀ぶりの録音は、やはりフランス語とは全く違って、お転婆なヴァルタン。
シルヴィ・ヴァルタンは相変わらず一言ではくくれない面白さがある。
